Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 1, 2026

The short version: PDFClaws (the desktop app) processes your documents entirely on your own computer. Your files are never uploaded, transmitted, or shared with us or anyone else. This policy explains the details for both the app and this website.

1. The PDFClaws desktop application

PDFClaws is an offline-first application. All PDF operations — compression, conversion, encryption, decryption, and merging — run locally on your device. Specifically:

  • Your documents never leave your computer.
  • The app works without an internet connection.
  • We do not collect, store, or have access to the contents of your files.
  • Passwords you enter are used locally in memory and are never stored or transmitted.
  • The app contains no advertising, no tracking SDKs, and no bundled third-party software.

2. This website

Like most websites, our hosting provider may automatically collect standard technical logs (IP address, browser type, pages visited) for security and reliability purposes. These logs are not linked to your identity and are rotated regularly.

If we enable privacy-friendly analytics, they are used only to understand aggregate usage (for example, which pages are popular). We do not use advertising trackers and we do not sell data to anyone.

3. Email communications

If you contact us by email, we receive your email address and message content solely to respond to your inquiry. We do not add you to marketing lists without your explicit consent.

4. Data we do not collect

  • No account registration — we have no user database.
  • No file contents, file names, or metadata from your documents.
  • No passwords or encryption keys.
  • No payment information (the app is free).

5. Children's privacy

Our software and website are not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

6. Changes to this policy

If we update this policy, we will post the new version on this page with an updated date. Material changes will be highlighted on the website.
