Large PDF files are a daily frustration: email providers reject attachments over 25 MB, government and job portals cap uploads, and sharing a 100 MB scan over chat takes forever. PDFClaws's Compress PDF tool fixes this locally on your PC.

Unlike online compressors such as Smallpdf or iLovePDF, PDFClaws never uploads your documents. The compression engine rebuilds your PDF on your own machine: it intelligently downsamples embedded images, removes duplicate objects, strips unused fonts and metadata, and rewrites the file structure — often cutting size by 50–90% with no visible quality loss.

Choose from three presets. High Quality keeps images near-print resolution for documents you'll present or print. Balanced is perfect for everyday sharing. Maximum Compression squeezes every last kilobyte out of scanned documents for archiving or slow connections.

FAQ

Compress PDF FAQ

Will compressing a PDF reduce its quality?

Text and vector graphics always stay perfectly sharp. Only embedded images are recompressed, and with the High Quality preset the difference is invisible to the eye. Maximum Compression trades some image detail for the smallest possible size — ideal for scans.

Is there a file size or page limit?

No. Because PDFClaws runs locally on your computer, there are no upload limits, no daily caps, and no page restrictions. Compress a 2 GB report as easily as a 2 MB one.

Is it safe to compress confidential PDFs here?

Yes — safer than any online tool. PDFClaws processes files entirely on your device. Nothing is uploaded, logged, or shared, so contracts, medical records, and financial statements stay private.

Why is my compressed PDF still large?

Some PDFs contain mostly text or already-optimized images, so there's little left to remove. The biggest wins come from PDFs with high-resolution scans or photos. Try the Maximum Compression preset for those.
